“I would like to say a huge thank you to Goverseth Accountants for the service we have received. Firstly, taking you on as our accountant, has freed up so much time for me to focus on running the business, but also peace of mind knowing that this is in safe hands, has been highly reassuring. You have answered all our queries speedily and gone that extra mile whenever needed, to make sure everything is correct and understood. From car purchasing advice, to VAT thresholds and corporation tax.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Carl and Goverseth Accountants to anyone needing any accounting services.”

“I have been a client of Carl's for 2 years now. When I first started with Carl I had been left with lot of financial issues from a previous accountant!! Carl worked tirelessly to put my accounts and business finance in order. I have learnt so much from Carl's expertise, I am now confident with knowing my figures for my business. We have monthly meetings where we discuss everything to do with my business, and future planning.

I have recommended Carl to lots of business owners, all of whom are very happy also with Carl's service and approach.

Thank you, Carl for all the hard work.”

“Carl has been my accountant for more than 2 years now. He has done an amazing job of getting my accounts ship-shape. My previous accountant hadn't been as proactive as I thought he was going to be. Carl has done a great job of sorting it all out and most importantly taking the worry of it all out of my hands. I now have a very accurate picture of how my business is performing and what I need to do improve things.”

I have absolute confidence in him and his recommendations as to what I need to/should do in respect of my accounts. I would happily recommend Carl to anyone looking for an accountant who is professional, approachable, and down to earth.”

Making Tax Digital – Corporation Tax

HMRC’s Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Corporation Tax, has been delayed many times since 2020.
The latest HMRC guidance is that the MTD rules will not have to be complied with “before April 2026”.
Current position:
(until at least 31st March 2026):
You will be submitting a company corporation tax return once a year, due 12-months after the accounting year-end date, so 31st March 2024 returns are due by 31st March 2025.

One annual submission, with any corporation tax due 9 months and 1 day after the year-end date (unless a large company), so for 31st March 2024 year-end, the tax would be due by 1st January 2025.
Future position:
(not before 1 April 2026)
You will be required to submit FOUR quarterly updates to HMRC of your company’s business income and expenses (including the dates, amounts and category for each transaction), AND a final corporation tax return submission after the end of the tax year.

Unlike MTD Income Tax, there are NO exemptions for companies with gross income under a certain threshold.

What will I have to do under the new MTD rules?

What will I have to do under the new MTD rules?

Keep your business records of income and expenses in a digital format.
Send the quarterly updates directly to HMRC using compatible digital software
Submit your annual corporation tax return using MTD software
Pay any tax as normal, within 9 months and 1 day after the end of the accounting period

Time Saving Software

Compatible digital software that we use includes Xero, Quickbooks and FreeAgent.

Although the start date for having to comply with MTD Corporation Tax is April 2026 at the earliest, we encourage all company clients to get in touch with us now, and start to use the above MTD compatible software, rather than wait until the last minute.

The software offers a lot of advantages and time-saving processing, which will speed up your recordkeeping.
